From the producers of "The Blind Side", "Dolphin Tale" is inspired by the amazing true story of a brave dolphin and the compassionate strangers who banded together to save her life. Swimming free, a young dolphin is caught in a crab trap, severely damaging her tail. She is rescued and transported to the Clearwater Marine Hospital, where she is named Winter. But her fight for survival has just begun. Without a tail, Winter's prognosis is dire. It will take the expertise of a dedicated marine biologist (Harry Connick Jr.), the ingenuity of a brilliant prosthetics doctor (Morgan Freeman), and the unwavering devotion of a young boy (Nathan Gamble) to bring about a groundbreaking miracle-a miracle that might not only save Winter but could also help scores of people around the world. The real Winter, who plays herself in "Dolphin Tale," today serves as a symbol of courage, perseverance and hope to millions of people-both able and disabled-who have been touched by her remarkable story of recovery and rehabilitation.

  • Not so happy Dolphins

    By cosmiccath
Sorry to admit that dolphins in captivity are not happy. They are wild animals that live for and in open water. As touching as this film is, it needs to be remembered that this is Hollywood's version of reality. And as wonderful as the prosthetic addition to the plot makes the human intetraction and salvation of the story's protagonist dolphin seem to the box office-paying crowds, reality is a different manner. As another reviewer pointed out, the famous Flipper (the first of the famous movie star dolphins) allowed itself to die (emotional suicide) after being stressed into acting, and being separated from its natural oceanic for years. POSIT: Dolphins are intelligent, then ERGO: they need to be as free as we are. What oher sentient being ... oh, like a human child ... sitting captive in a zoo cage/aquarium and made to do tricks for food, could truly be considered happy? So, one star off for propaganda. As wonderful as seeing beautiful marine animals in captivity might be to wide-eyed kids, the truth is that ANY animal in captivity — aside from those that are actually saved from otherwise certain death, where one might argule logically that captivity is better than death (although this is likely not true anyway) — such animals are out of their natural elements and are truly prisoners of their capitalistic exploiters. Seems cool, but is it really right? Let each person search their own consciousness for that answer.

This movie is great, and fun. I love this movie a lot. I love all of the characters in this movie. I love the dolphin Winter in this movie. But I feel bad for her since she lost her tail. But luckily she got a brand new mechanic tail. It is one of my all time favorite movies ever.
